The Civil Aviation Authority are warning against scam emails offering compensation of up to £2,000 for passengers who are then asked to disclose their personal details including their passport information for an administration fee.

The Met Office have said that the volcanic ash problem could be with us for days to come as northerly winds continue to dominate the weather patterns across the UK.

The Civil Aviation Authority has warned that the disruption caused to flights would continue “for the foreseeable future”. Travellers are being warned that even if their travel insurance paid out for the last time the volcano erupted, they will not pay out this time as the eruption is a known event and not an unforeseen circumstance. The Post Office has said it will not pay out on any claims for policies bought after the 15th April; they had paid up to £300 for customers who had to cover the cost of the disruption on their trip.

The British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba) has estimated that around 50% of insurance companies will not pay out on any travel and accommodation costs under the “adverse weather” condition, the cost of paying out on these terms has cost the insurance industry more than £60 million which is around 16% of the total amount that would normally be paid for travel insurance claims in a whole year according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
